Joseph Kosinski’s Miami Vice Set for 2027 Release

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Universal Pictures has announced the release date for Joseph Kosinski’s remake of Miami Vice. The studio confirmed that the new film will hit theaters on August 6, 2027. Universal has previously released major summer action titles such as Hobbs & Shaw.

Written by Dan Gilroy and Eric Warren Singer, the screenplay is based on characters originally created by Anthony Yerkovich for the Miami Vice TV series. The show, which ran from 1984 to 1990, starred Don Johnson as James Crockett and Philip Michael Thomas as Ricardo Tubbs, spanning 111 episodes and winning four Emmy Awards.

The first Miami Vice feature, directed by Michael Mann and starring Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell, premiered in 2006. Though it received mixed reviews and grossed around $66 million domestically, the film has since gained a cult following.

Kosinski recently worked on Formula 1 with Brad Pitt and Javier Bardem, and he is also developing an untitled alien invasion project for Apple. His previous credits include Tron: Legacy and Oblivion.

Kosinski’s Miami Vice will be shot with IMAX cameras in 2026 ahead of its 2027 release.
